Course Records Broken at the Kentlands/Lakelands 5K & Kids Fun Runs

On a cool overcast morning course records were broken at the
2001
Kentlands/Lakelands 5K in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Troy Harry (left) of Fairfax, VA broke the course record by 20
seconds
finishing in a time of 15:26. Harry blazed through mile one in
4:50.
He was trailed by Michael Ryan of Arlington, VA who finished
second in a time of 15:45 and Rob Magin of Gaithersburg, MD who
finished third in a time of 16:14. Naoko Ishibe (below - click here for her
post race interview) of Silver Spring, MD broke her previous
course
record in a time of 17:14. She was followed by Patty Fulton
also of Silver Spring, who ran the course in 17:39, and Kim
Chenen of Gaithersburg, MD, who finished third in 19:51.
First Masters men finisher Dan Lawson was clocked
in at 16:21 and was fourth overall. First Masters woman was
Beth
McCann
of Falls Church, VA in 20:00. She was the fifth overall woman
finisher. Over 1,000 participants took part in the 5K Race and Kids Fun
Run. With a strong emphasis on youth fitness, several hundred
children took part in the quarter-mile Kids Fun Run which was
started in waves. The 5K runners received a pre-race warmup with help from The
Sergeant's Program (www.sarge.com). Post race
festivities and the awards ceremony took place in Kentland's
Market Square. Runners feasted on pizza, bagels and yogurt
while the kids scaled the climbing wall. The Montgomery County Road
Runners provided the race
results and
timing.
