What: 5K Fun Run
When: 8 a.m. April 24, 2004
Where: Hains Point, Washington DC
Cost: $25
How to register: Log on to www.active.com
Why: To raise money for the Bright Beginnings child-care center for homeless preschoolers.

E*TRADE Financial and the Bright Beginnings Child Development Center have joined forces to sponsor a 5K fun run to raise money for the preschool located in the District.

Bright Beginnings is a developmental child-care center for homeless preschoolers whose families are in crisis shelters or transitional housing in DC. The center offers free, full-day care that is designed to support parents as they stabilize their homes; provides the children with a safe, nurturing environment; and prepares the children to enter kindergarten ready to learn.

The Junior League of Washington has partnered with the Center since 1991 to produce the 5K run. Proceeds will be used to purchase classroom supplies and learning tools, and for general support of the center. Last year, more than 250 runners turned out in support of the event.

Runners can register for the run via the Internet by logging on to www.active.com. All participants will receive a T-shirt.

For more information about this event, contact: Kimberly Mielcarek, 202-393-2018, Junior League of Washington, event coordinator. Any support you can give to this 501(c)3 event would be greatly appreciated.
