Old Town is the Perfect Setting
A perfect early spring day attracted more than 500 runners and walkers to the third annual Wearin' of the Green 5K on Sunday, March 7.

Matt Bierlein (18) of Marshall, Virginia won the 5K race in 17:42, about 30 seconds ahead of Jean-Christophe Arcaz (43) of Rockville, Maryland. Mark Vann (37) of Winchester, Virginia (photo above) was third in 19:08, with Neil McLaughlin (39) of Reston, Virginia hot on his heels just a second later.

In the women's race, Alexandria's Jacqueline Concaugh (29) finished first and third overall in 18:27. Although more than a minute off her 5K PR, she turned in a respectable time on a hilly course. Stephanie Giunta (13) of Vint Hill Farms, Virginia was second in 22:07, and Lauren Howard (14) of Herndon, Virginia took third in 22:37.

Fitness walkers, families with kids and dogs, and strollers enjoyed a 5K walk which started about 15 minutes before the runners. After the 5K run and walk were over, kids dashed down Main Street in a two-block fun run, ending in front of Molly's Irish Pub, where food and refreshments awaited and awards were handed out to the fastest competitors in the 5K.
