AOL America Online, Inc. Signs On As Title Sponsor of the LAWS Half-Marathon
By Randy Skovrinski - race director
March 17, 2005
Leesburg, VA
For the Washington Running Report

The Loudoun Road Runners Club (LRRC) and the Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter (LAWS) are very pleased to announce that America Online, Inc. (AOL) will be the title sponsor for the 11th annual LAWS Half-Marathon and 5K. Race Director, Randy Skovrinski is "very excited about this new relationship," because it "shows the depth of the support by the community for the LAWS. I look forward to working with AOL and am excited about the impact their sponsorship will have on the ability of the LAWS to provide the services it performs on behalf of victims of domestic violence."

The LAWS Half-Marathon is Leesburg's longest road race and one of the most prestigious road races in Loudoun County. This year's event, which will be held at the Loudoun County 4H Fairgrounds, will be contested on Sunday, September 25, 2005. A maximum field of 1,000 runners will run the scenic, rolling looped course that starts and ends at the Loudoun County 4H Fairgrounds. An estimated 2,000 spectators line the 13.1-mile route each year, making the LAWS Half-Marathon and 5K one of Leesburg's most popular sporting events. In addition, the timing of the race, one month prior to the nationally recognized Marine Corps Marathon, makes it an excellent training opportunity for runners who wish to gauge their preparation for that and other fall marathons. The race begins at 8:00 AM on the 25th and in- person registration is possible on Saturday the 24th at the 4H from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Proceeds from the LAWS Half-Marathon and 5K directly benefit the LAWS, which had its 20th anniversary in 2004. Additional sponsorship and volunteers are welcome. LAWS provides emergency shelter, crisis intervention, legal services, support and information for women and children who are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or child abuse.
