MCRRC Beginning Women's Runners Program
Begins April 8, 2006 - Getting Ready for Roses!
By Nancy Betress March 31, 2006 Rockville, MD For the Washington Running Report
The Montgomery County Road Runners Club (MCRRC) Beginning
Women's Runners Program will begin on Saturday, April 8, 2006,
8:00 a.m. at the Josiah Henson House at Ken-Gar Palisades Park
(4140 Wexford Drive, Kensington, MD). Registration and
orientation will take place at the first meeting followed by a
short run. There will be no online registration for the program. The program is for women new to the sport or returning to the
sport. A training program is designed for participants based on
their fitness levels so they can progress at their own pace.
Women enjoy the supportive, non-competitive environment the
program offers inspiring each person to reach her goal. It
helps group together women at similar levels with the hope that
they find running partners to continue running after the program
ends. The group will meet at Ken-Gar every Saturday morning, and also
Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. at the Gaithersburg High School
track. Participants will also be expected to do some running on
their own two or three other times during the week. The program
continues for ten weeks with the goal of running a 5K race at
the completion -- the "Run for Roses 5K" Women's Distance
Festival on Saturday, June 17th at Wheaton Regional Park. The
Saturday morning meetings often feature a short talk by
different experts on topics such as stretching, shoes, and
injury prevention. The program is free for MCRRC members and all participants of
the program must be members of MCRRC. Single membership for one
year is $25.00 and family membership is $40.
Detailed information about and the program and parking at Ken-
Gar is available on the web site at
