Benefits Breast Cancer Research and Local Education, Screening & Treatment Programs
Registration is now open for the 16th annual Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation National Race For the Cure(R). On Saturday, June 4th, an expected 60,000 runners and walkers will gather on the National Mall for the Komen National Race for the Cure(R) to raise money and awareness to fight breast cancer one step at a time.

This year, there are even more fun ways to get involved:

--The Komen National Race for the Cure(R) has something for the whole family including the 5K run/walk, a one-mile fun walk and a new entertainment and activity area for kids.

--Too tired to run or walk? Residents still can be part of the Komen National Race for the Cure(R) by joining Sleep In for the Cure(R). Sleep In for the Cure(R) participants get a T-shirt, socks and a bib number so they can be part of the fight against breast cancer, from the comfort of their own bed.

--Support or honor a loved one or friend who battled breast cancer by purchasing Komen Links to the Cure(R). Buy pink Links to the Cure(R) at area Wal-Mart's for $2 and write your message of support. All Links to the Cure(R) will be linked together and displayed on Race Day to symbolize our unity in the fight against breast cancer.

Washington, D.C. has the highest breast cancer mortality rate in the United States. Registering for the Komen National Race for the Cure(R) offers D.C.-area residents a chance to make a direct impact on the community. More than $1 million from the Komen National Race for the Cure(R) net proceeds remain in the metropolitan Washington community - including Virginia and Maryland - to provide funding for breast health and breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs for the medically underserved. The remaining net proceeds support cutting-edge breast cancer research through the Komen Foundation Award and Research Grant Program.

Runners and walkers can register online, by mail, at one-stop registration sites or through late registration. One Stop locations are listed below. Entry forms are available at several retail locations throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
