The 2005 Marine Corps Marathon 8K boasts a new course and start line. Held on Marathon Sunday, October 30, 2005, the 4.97-mile run will kick off in Runners Village, part of the Pentagon North Parking Lot, and contain a larger portion of the actual marathon course leading up to the finish under the MCM arch at the Iwo Jima Monument. "MCM 8K Runners will get the MCM experience for a fraction of the mileage,"explains Rick Nealis, MCM Race Director. " The new course gives runners more time on the MCM course, beginning at Mile 22, winding through the Crystal City Street Spectacular, north on Route 110 and crossing the same picturesque finish as the marathoners at the Iwo Jima Monument."

Registration for the MCM 8K to open May 1, 2005 on marinemarathon.com. Entry fee is $38 and pre- registration is required. MCM 8K participants receive a competitor long sleeve t-shirt, goodie bag, finisher medal and refreshments at the finish line. Runners must pick up their race packets including bib, chip and t-shirt at the MCM Runners' Expo presented by Caremark on Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October 29, at its new location, the DC Armory in Washington, DC. MCM8K runners are encouraged to take part in the many weekend events including pasta dinners, symposium speakers, the post race party and more exciting anniversary happenings.
