For the Washington Running Report

The Germantown 5-Miler is a family friendly fitness activity that will be held in Germantown, Maryland, on Saturday, May 20, 2006. The race, benefiting Germantown Boys & Girls Club, is presented by Seneca Creek Community Church in cooperation with Capital Running Company. The event, to be held at Seneca Meadows Corporate Center of Germantown, will include a 5-mile ChampionChip-timed race, a 2-mile family fun run and a 1K kids run. The fun run allows strollers and dogs. These events will culminate with awards, prize drawings, and fresh baked refreshments.

The Germantown 5-Miler is only a few days away! The 5-mile race begins at 8:30 a.m. The kids 1K will start at 8:10 and the 2- mile fun run/walk will begin after the 5-Miler. Some of our returning sponsors have put up some great items for the runners. California Tortilla in Germantown has provided a number of prizes for our age category winners and will be putting in some great coupons for free food in the packets. California Tortilla will also be hosting our packet pick up so stop by and thank Sam for sponsoring the race. Expect some surprises at packet pick up. The store is located at the corner of Pinnacle Drive and Century Boulevard across the street from where the new Germantown Library is still being built. Additional parking is off of Pinnacle Drive.

Fleet Feet Gaithersburg is giving a coupon to our 5-Miler participants for $5 off your next purchase as well as apparel prizes for the age group winners. They opened the day before last year's race and have been active in the running community this past year. Stop by the Kentlands store and thank Chris and Robyn.

Finally, the fresh, home-baked brownies are being made and Country Cone Cafe is back to provide Italian Ice after your 5 mile run. The family discount ends on May 14th; prices increase as well, so sign up now at www.germantown5miler.com .
