Announcing the Inaugural Potomac River Running Twilight Festival 4-Miler

& 1 Mile Fun Run
By Cathy Pugsley
May 2, 2006
Ashburn, VA
For the Washington Running Report

The inaugural Potomac River Running Twilight Festival 4-Miler is a new event that will be held in Ashburn, Virginia Sunday evening, June 25, 2006 at 7:45 PM. The race will conclude the weekend-long Old Dominion Beer Festival at the Old Dominion Brewing Company in Ashburn, VA. With a family friendly festival atmosphere, fast course, and evening start on the summer solstice weekend, the race promises to be a unique event.

Some of the race net proceeds will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to support the training and travel costs for cancer survivors participating in that charity's Team in Training programs. Other funds will be used to create an Annual Scholarship for a deserving area high school runner who contributes to his/her team beyond race results in areas of sportsmanship, work ethic, etc.

The event, presented by Potomac River Running in cooperation with Capital Running Company, will include the 4-Miler, a ChampionChip-timed race, and a 1-Mile Fun Run. The Fun Run allows strollers and dogs. These events will culminate with awards, random prizes, and a finish line festival including live entertainment, Old Dominion beer, and food from Hard Times Cafe and other sponsors.

In addition to overall and age group awards, the race will award prizes to the winner of the High School Team Registration Challenge and the Team/Corporate Challenge. The high school recruiting the greatest number of registrants will receive recognition and gear for the 2006-2007 school year. Awards will be presented to the team with the fastest combined time. In addition, all participants will receive a technical, high performance "wicking" dri-release T-shirt without any upgrade fee.

Register on-line now at Potomac River Running or at Washington Running Report's Entry Forms page for just $20. The fee increases to $25 on May 16 and to $30 on race day. The family-friendly 1-Mile Fun Run is just $10.

Potomac River Running is a local, family-owned running specialty company with Virginia stores in Ashburn, Burke, and coming soon to Reston, in the Reston Town Center. Since opening in 2003, Potomac River Running has been a proud supporter of both the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training Programs and local high school cross-country and track programs. Potomac River Running is excited about the opportunity to put together an event that will benefit both of these groups.

It is not too late to volunteer or sponsor this event. For more information, contact the race organizers.
