Ashburn Area Running Club Offers a Fall Marathon Training Program
By Cathy Pugsley May 16, 2006 Ashburn, VA For the Washington Running Report
The Ashburn Area Running Club (AARC), a non-profit running club
serving the Ashburn area and beyond, will again offer a Fall
Marathon Training Program (MTP) for area runners running Marine
Corps or another fall marathon. The MTP is designed to provide
coaching and organization for those people who don't live in or
near the city and are looking for a structured training option
that doesn't require a long drive to the long run. An Information Session will be held on Sunday, May 21 at 5:15 at
the Potomac River Running Store in Ashburn, VA. The session
will provide interested runners the opportunity to hear a
program overview, meet coaches and participants from last year's
program, and ask questions. The MTP is designed and coordinated by experienced coaches with
significant marathon and marathon coaching experience. It is
tailored to various different marathon experience levels and
goals, and can be modified to accommodate differing fall
marathon choices (though many participants are preparing for the
Marine Corps Marathon.) The MTP $50 cost ($75 for non-members which includes
registration for the AARC) includes a detailed training schedule
with long runs, interval sessions through the Club's Summer All-
Comer's Interval program, and additional weekly run suggestions.
Participants have email access to coaches to address any
personal training issues. The MTP also includes three evening
seminars on training principles, hydration and nutrition, and
race day preparation. The MTP will formally kick off (and schedules will be
distributed to all registered participants) on Saturday, June 10
at 7:30 a.m., although Club organizers encourage everyone who
registers begin participating in regular Club Saturday morning
runs between now and June to get started.
For more information on the MTP or the Ashburn Area Running
Club's other programs, or to register, please visit the AARC
