In its 28th year, the Capitol Hill Classic will be held on
Sunday, May 20, 2007, at 8:30 am.There are three running options: the 10K, a 3K, and a kid's fun
run. The courses begin and end at Peabody School, which is
located at the corner of 5th and C Streets NE, just across from
Stanton Park. The course runs through the historic Capitol
Hill neighborhoods, around Lincoln Park and RFK Stadium, down
East Capitol Street and around the Capitol, and then back up
the Hill.
The race benefits the
Capitol Hill Cluster School, a wonderful DC public school
serving approximately 1000 students from pre-school through 8th
grade. In 2005, the Classic raised a record $45,000 for the
Cluster School, and this year we aim to reach $50,000 for this
key DC institution.
XM Radio and Subscription for the Race Winner!
The race committee is pleased to announce that the winner of
this year's Classic will receive a radio and 6-month
subscription to XM Radio! Cash prizes are awarded to the top
three 10K finishers in the men's and women's categories.
Returning in 2007: 5-year Age Groups!
The Classic will again feature 5-year age groups, starting at
age 10 and going up to 80 and above. Medals will be awarded to
the top finisher, male and female, in each age bracket, for
both the 10K and the 3K races.
Team Competition
Gather your human friends, co-workers, classmates, club
members, or neighbors and form a team. And this year, teams can
be formed for the 10K and the 3K! There will be prizes awarded
for the fastest team, the largest team, and the craziest
costumed team.
The BabyFit Runners
The BabyFit Runners are a group of six women and one husband
who "met" in an on-line forum in early October 2006 while all
were in their third trimester of pregnancy (five are first time
moms). All of the women ran right up until giving birth and
continued their on-line friendship ever since. The live all
over the world (Chicago, Detroit, Philly, Tampa, DC, and
Scotland) and will be meeting in person for the first time the
weekend of the race. They have supported each other through
their final moments of pregnancy and in their new lives as
mommies. All went back to running within two weeks of giving
birth (four after C-sections).
Their love for running has joined them in a sisterhood across
many miles, states, and even continents. Even though a few them
are nursing various injuries, they are all going to "suck it
up" and take on this challenge with gusto. Their five baby boys
and one baby girl will be waiting for them at the finish line,
along with their dear husbands who have supported them through
the many ups and downs. They all look forward to race day and
their weekend in DC!
Eastern Market: More than Just a Building
The Capitol Hill Classic is proud to be part of a community-
wide effort to support the merchants and employees of
businesses that were lost in the April 30 fire that destroyed
Eastern Market. The Capitol Hill Community Foundation is
collecting tax-deductible contributions to support these
merchants as they get back on their feet, whether in direct
financial assistance or in promoting their businesses once
temporary housing has been designated for them.
The Foundation will have a table at Stanton Park race day to
accept donations from race participants who would like to help.

Web site.
