The DC Front Runners is holding a special ten-week 5K race- training program for beginning runners starting Saturday, July 7, 2007.

"We are encouraging all interested people in our community, regardless of their fitness level or running experience, to give our ten-week program a try. Running is great way to get into shape, and you do not have to be fast or experienced to successfully complete this program and the 5K race," said DC Front Runners Coordinator Jim Chandler.

Participants will train to complete their first race: the Arlington 9/11 Memorial 5K on Saturday, September 8, 2007. The training programs are designed for both first-time runners who want to get into shape and more advanced beginners who would like to cross-train or improve their running abilities in a supportive and social environment. The program will meet for consecutive group training sessions on Saturdays, 10:00 am from July 7 through September 1. The assembly place for the group is Shevchenko Park, 23rd and P Street NW in Washington's Dupont Circle neighborhood. DC Front Runner Blake Rushin, a Road Runner Club of America certified running coach and other experienced club members will provide coaching and advice.

"By using a run-walk approach, our beginner's program focuses on completing a race, gaining fitness and establishing a healthy lifestyle through running. The advanced beginner's program is designed for those who have some running experience or conditioning and may include more running, less walking and longer distances to build endurance," said Blake Rushin, program coach.

There are no minimum speed or fitness requirements to participate in this program. All are welcome to register regardless of age, pace, sexual orientation, or running experience.

Participants are asked to join DC Front Runners ($25 annual membership fee) and can register or send questions via e- mail. Race registration is not included. Inquiries should include your name, phone number, e-mail address and beginner/advanced beginner program preference. Further details about the program can be found in the club's 5K Race Training Program brochure that is available for download at www.dcfrontrunners.org.

DC Front Runners is a running, walking and social club serving gay people and friends in the Washington DC area. The club holds weekly group runs and walks, organizes a members' race circuit, sponsors social events and has recently celebrated its 25th Anniversary.
