Reinforcing the ATM Volunteer Team
By George Banker
May 14, 2008
Washington, DC
For the Washington Running Report

The Army Ten-Miler (ATM) will be celebrating its 24th running on October 5, 2008. Through the years there has been demands placed upon the race to sustain its growth as the sport of running has changed. The runners are concerned with health and fitness. The success of managing the changes has been accomplished through the support of hundreds of volunteers.

The volunteers of the ATM do more than "show up", they play an active part in the execution of the race plans from the hotel packet pick-up to the water stations along the race route. The volunteers assist in developing solutions which deliver results.

The goal for the volunteer program is to recruit those who have a desire to make a positive impact on the experience of each runner.

Operational excellence is the mark to attain and this is through the retention of volunteers. Each volunteer is a valuable member of the ATM Volunteer Team.

The opportunities to support the race on Friday and Saturday during the packet pick-up are limited and filling up fast. The location will be at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, VA. Any person who works a double shift in the same day will receive a meal voucher.
