Third Annual Turkey Trot
By Shirley Lambert
November 2002
Bowie, MD
For the Washington Running Report

The Third Annual Turkey Trot, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Bladensburg and the American Red Cross, Prince George's County, will take place at Allen Pond, in Bowie, MD, on Thanksgiving morning, November 28, at 9:00 a.m.

The race is a 5K certified run, with a 1-Mile Family Fun Walk/Run around the pond. There will be many random prizes, activities for kids--it's a great way to get out of the house and let the turkey cook and have fun.

Prizes go two deep, and age groups are 11 and under, 12-19, then the 20s, etc., including a 70+ age group.

Early bird registraton: $15.00 for the race (which includes a commercially designed long-sleeve T-shirt); $20.00 postmarked after Nov. 22.

Walk/run: $5.00 per person; $8.00 per family. Shirts may be purchased for $10.00. After Nov. 22, entry is $8.00 per person, $14.00 per family.

Race Day registration opens at 7:45 at Allen Pond. Packet pick- up is at Allen Pond.

Registrations may be mailed to George Kapusta, Treasurer, 1076 Foxcroft Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. Make checks payable to Turkey Trot, Bladensburg Rotary Club.

The American Red Cross and Rotary International are the world's two largest humanitarian organizations. Proceeds will go to assist the Prince George's Chapter of the American Red Cross in their disaster relief programs locally, as well as to support emergency communications and train volunteers in preparedness and response capability to weapons of mass destruction. The Rotary Club will use its share of the proceeds to support its programs for area youth, including college scholarships, financial assistance to low-income public schools, and programs for teens and disabled children.

Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the holiday season of giving--this is a great way to start. Corporate donations may be sent to the American Red Cross, Prince George's County Chapter.
