On Sunday, November 23, 2003, the Outback Steakhouse in Hyattsville, Md., will be rolling out the carpet once again for the 11th Annual Outback Steakhouse 8K Run/Walk, beginning at 9:00 am. The start and finish will be located at Prince George's Plaza, 3500 East-West Highway. The USATF-certified course will be through the surrounding area with several short, rolling hills.

Late registration will be conducted on Saturday, November 22, 2003, from10:00 am to 5:00 pm, at the Outback Steakhouse. The Metro Green Line stop is within minutes of the site.

Race day, registration will open at 7:00 am at the Food Court inside Prince George's Plaza. There will be ample parking. The Outback Steakhouse is the Official Hospitality sponsor and will serve the post-race food.

This community-based event has a lot to offer by way of supporting physical fitness and friendly competition. The race attracts some of the best area runners with an international flair, the most competitive road race in Prince George's County. Each year new records have been set.

The top runners will be going after $7,500 in cash awards: Open (male/female) $600, $450, $300, $200, $100 and $75. Master (male/female) $400, $350, $250, $150 and $75. The first place (male/female) finisher in the following age groups will receive $50: 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80 and over. There will be no duplication of any individual awards.

There will be an event record bonus offered of $100 for the fastest time under:

The team competition: a maximum of five members per team, and the first four score, with a minimum of two females among those scoring. All ties will be broken by the time of the fastest member. The "chip time" will be used for scoring.

Team awards include:

All-Comers - The top four fastest teams will be dashing for cash totaling $800: 1st - $275, 2nd - $225, 3rd -$175 and 4th - $125. Challenge Cup Trophy - Open to Military, Police and Fire/Rescue Teams of 50 or More - Teams will be eligible to enter a special drawing for a FREE luncheon (to be scheduled after January 1, 2004, Monday through Friday 12 pm to 2 pm) to be held at the Hyattsville Outback Steakhouse, for up to a maximum of 150 members.

"The level of competition was good for me and I started out in fifth or sixth place and having the other people to work off and to move up was good. The only expectation I had was to run fast and be happy with my time," stated Meghan McLaughlin of Potomac River Running, the third place finisher last year (29:05).
