See a summary of the 2003 Veterans Day 10K Run

Run Along the Beautiful Potomac River in the Nation's Capital
Capital Running Company salutes America's veterans by sponsoring the 5th Annual Veterans Day 10K, on Sunday, November 7, 2004, 8:00 am in West Potomac Park near the FDR Memorial in Washington, DC. The race course is flat and fast along the Potomac River and around the tip of Hains Point in East Potomac Park.

On May 13, 1938, a legal holiday scheduled for November 11th and named "Armistice Day" came into being, and on June 1, 1954, the word "Armistice" was replaced by "Veterans." The holiday is a day to honor American veterans of all wars and thank all living veterans for their service and contributions to our national security.

Full details are located at Veterans Day 10K.

Register in person or pick up your bib, t-shirt, and rental ChampionChip on Saturday, November 6, at Metro Run & Walk, 7516 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, Virginia, from 11 am to 3 pm.

On race day morning, packet pickup begins at 7:00 am near the start/finish line in West Potomac Park.

The Veterans Day 10K is an excellent recovery run one week after the Marine Corps Marathon to keep the legs in shape.

Post-race refreshments include bagels, bananas, apples, water, and a hot beverage.

There will be numerous random prizes during the post-race ceremony, including valuable gift certificates from area running shoe stores; you must be present to win random prizes.

Online registration is available through Thursday, November 4.

This year's Veterans Day 10K run for top awards will be competitive. The following age group event record holders have entered the 2004 race: Ovidiu Olteanu (31:20 in 2003, winner), Denisa Costescu (34:35 in 2003, female 25-29), Chuck Moeser (33:56 in 2003, 50-54), Betty Blank (41:41 in 2003, 50-54), Patrick Griffith (38:26 in 2003, 55-59), Alice Franks (44:38 in 2003, 55-59), Walt Washburn (59:32 in 2003, 80 & Over) and Hedy Marque (56:36 in 1998, 80 & Over).

For directions to the race site, please see information on the Veterans Day 10K Web site.

Metrorail - Opens at 7:00 am on Sunday
