News Release Courtesy of Caroline Tynan November 9, 2005 For the Washington Running Report
Marymount's head cross-country coach, Caroline Zajac-Tynan, has
been named the Most Outstanding Student-Athlete in Division I
Cross-Country in the past 25 years according to the NCAA.
Tynan won two NCAA cross-country championships while at
Villanova in the early 1990s and finished second once. The
Wildcats won four consecutive NCAA cross-country team
championships, one of Tynan's fondest memories. She also won
two NCAA track championships in the 10,000 meters and was an 11-
time All American in track and cross-country. She currently
holds the second fastest collegiate 10,000 meters in NCAA
history.
The award by the NCAA is bestowed in conjunction with the NCAA's
celebration surrounding the 25th Anniversary of Women's
Championships. An NCAA expert panel, which consisted of current
and former coaches, athletics administrators, sports information
directors, and coaches' association members, used historical
data and championship results to make their decision.
Tynan will receive her award in a ceremony at the NCAA
championships on November 21 in Terre Haute, IN.
