15th Annual Virginia Run Turkey Trot
to be Held on Thanksgiving

From the official press release
October 28, 2003
Centreville, Virginia
For the Washington Running Report

Proceeds to Benefit
Life with Cancer

Virginia Run community volunteers will stage a Thanksgiving tradition on November 27th at 8:00am--the 15th Annual Virginia Run Turkey Trot.

The Trot includes a 5K race as well as a 2K fun run/walking course. Each travels through the Virginia Run community, which is located at Route 29 and Pleasant Valley Road in Centreville.

All proceeds from the Turkey Trot benefit Life with Cancer, INOVA Health System's non-profit program for cancer patients and their families. "The Turkey Trot and Life with Cancer have grown up together," commented Dominic DeVincenzo, Race Chairman. The event has been raising funds for the cancer program for eleven years. During that time, Life with Cancer has become a well- established support program and in 2002 the Turkey Trot attracted enough participants and sponsors to net a $35,000 donation to the charity.

The event is open to anyone wishing to enjoy the brisk weather and get some exercise before indulging in Thanksgiving fare. Last year more than 1,500 runners and 750 walkers participated.

Easy registration is available online. It's fast, easy, and you receive an instant confirmation of your entry. Entry fee is $18 to run and $13 to walk if registered by November 21st. Fee includes a long sleeve t-shirt, post race snacks, and raffle participation. Prizes are awarded to the fastest two males and females overall and in the Virginia Run residents category. In addition, the top two runners in the following age categories will receive prizes: 10 and under, 11- 14, 15-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60+.

Full information about the Virginia Run Turkey Trot can be found on the race Web site.
