Syracuse PACE Race 5K Brings in Record Winning Time in Series History

John Itati Sets Record with 13:45
From the Prostate Cancer Education Council
October 5, 2004
Syracuse, NY

The Washington, D.C. PACE Race 5K is Saturday, October 30th. See the Press Release.

Approximately 400 participants turned out for the Syracuse PACE Race, part of the 12th Annual Syracuse Festival of Races, to see the fastest 5K time in PACE Race history.

John Itati, of Royersfield, PA, set the all-time PACE Race 5K record with a time of 13:45 holding off one of the fastest PACE Race fields to date.

"We're ecstatic with the level of participation in this year's race as well as the tremendous finishing times that were recorded," said David Oja, Syracuse PACE Race director. "I'd like to thank every one of the finisher's for their support in this important, life-saving fight."

"I am extremely pleased with the event from a management and professionalism aspect," said Mandy Deas, PACE Race Series Director. "The times turned in were out of this world, including a new all-time Series record. We're already making plans for a return visit in 2005."

More than 190,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year, second only to skin cancer among males. When caught early, prostate cancer is among the most treatable forms of the disease. That is why screening is crucial - and why PACE is looking to reach people nationwide.

The PACE Race series kicked off June 20 in Pittsburgh, PA and ends November 20 in Tampa, FL and Atlanta, GA. The PACE Race Series is presented by Aventis and supported by the Prostate Cancer Education Council, PowerBar, Propel, Madhava, and Kettle Chips.
