Sports Performance Training for Athletes in New Rockville Location

Velocity Sports Performance Offers Training with Degreed Coaches
From Rockville Velocity Sports Performance
October 15, 2004
Rockville, MD
For the Washington Running Report

Facility Guarantees Increase in Speed, Power and Agility
Velocity Sports Performance opened its first Rockville, MD location, one of three new facilities in the metro Washington D.C. area. The centers offer youth and adult athletes of all skill levels the type of coaching expertise, state-of-the-art facilities, and close personal attention previously available only to professional and upper-level collegiate athletes.

"Pick a sport, and Velocity Sports Performance will make you better at it," says Samantha Horwitz, co-owner of the new Rockville center. "Whether you are a recreational weekend athlete, league athlete trying to make the select team, high- school athlete trying to make Varsity, Olympic hopeful or professional athlete, we can help you compete at a higher level and enjoy life-long fitness."

"We constantly hear concerns from parents that their child needs more strength to throw or kick the ball further or to jump higher, more speed to get around the field faster, more endurance to last the entire game, or greater agility to dribble through defenders or to get open for a shot," says Richard Levy, the Rockville center's Sports Performance Director. "By integrating warm up, speed and agility work, strength training, and endurance drills into a single workout, and by properly progressing athletes in these areas, we can deliver consistent improvement with minimal chance of injury."

The Facility and Training Program
Located at 4956 Boiling Brook Parkway in Rockville, the climate- controlled facility combines a 30-yard turf field, a 50-yard Mondo track with electronic timing, a multi-purpose hard court, and the most advanced speed and power equipment available-- including a complete weight training area--under one roof. It is like a mini-Olympic training center on par with any professional or collegiate strength and conditioning facility.

"The level of competition in sports - particularly youth sports - has risen in recent years so proper training is essential for both maximum performance and injury prevention," says Dr. Steven M. Horwitz, co-owner. "Studies show that the incidence of overuse injuries sustained by young athletes could be reduced by 50% if more emphasis was placed on the development of fundamental fitness abilities before sports participation. We bring expertise in proper strength and conditioning and warm up techniques to lower the risk of injury."

Athletes typically train 2-3 times a week in groups no larger than six, so that clients receive individualized coaching and close attention. All Velocity Sports Performance coaches are degreed in one of the exercise science/sports management fields and must attain certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and USA Weightlifting. The athletes are grouped per age and skill level to best motivate and encourage each another to train at their optimal intensity. The company offers a guarantee that any athlete who participates in 24 sessions will increase their speed, power and agility. Team training is also available to athletes and coaches who wish to train together as a group.

Training can be enhanced with Dartfish digital functional motion analysis - the same system used by the United States Olympic Committee and shown on T.V. during the 2004 Olympic Games - to provide immediate visual feedback and to analyze and compare technique.

Key players from the Washington Redskins agree regarding the value Velocity Sports Performance's specialized training provides: "The value of the athletic training Velocity Sports Performance provides will be evident almost immediately, as it was for me. It will be especially beneficial for kids in youth sport leagues," says Kenyatta Jones, Offensive Tackle, Washington Redskins. "I wish I would have had this type of training as a young athlete, to gain strength and learn injury prevention techniques. I look forward to working with Velocity Sports Performance to make me stronger, prevent future injuries and keep me playing professional sports longer."

"Velocity Sports Performance helped me have the best year of my career," says Phillip Daniels, Defensive End, Washington Redskins. "After training with them, I feel that Velocity Sports Performance is in a league of its own. It will be accurate to say nobody can get you physically ready and in great shape like Velocity Sports Performance can. I plan on training there a lot in the future." And Marcus Washington, Linebacker for the Redskins agrees, "I've never felt better than after training at Velocity Sports Performance."

Velocity Sports Performance Golf
The Rockville Velocity Sports Performance Center also offers a fitness program exclusively for golfers. Using state-of-the-art functional video motion along with golf specific strength and agility training techniques, the program increases the golfer's consistency, adds yards to their shot, improves their stamina and overall range of motion, and helps prevent and bounce back from common injuries found in golfers.

Active Release and Chiropractic Services
Velocity Sports Performance Rockville will also offer clients qualified, expert chiropractic services with Dr. Steven Horwitz, including providing Active Release Technique (ART). ART is a patented, state-of-the-art soft tissue system that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves that result from overused muscles. The ART provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.

Michael Barrow, Linebacker for the Washington Redskins, says, "ART is great! I got instant results!"

Rockville Leadership Team
Samantha Horwitz, co-owner, is a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She is a former United States Secret Service Agent and served under two Presidential administrations.

Dr. Steven Horwitz, co-owner, is certified as a Chiropractic Sports Physician, Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Active Release Technique provider. The United States Olympic Committee selected Dr. Horwitz to be part of the 1996 United States Olympic Team medical staff and he was appointed by the Governor to the Maryland Council on Physical Fitness, serving as its Chairman for two years.

Richard Levy, the Rockville center's Sports Performance Director, was head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Virginia Military Institute (VMI) for five years. He supervised program design and implementation for football, baseball, wrestling and women's soccer. Prior to VMI, Levy was a Strength and Conditioning Coach at University of Arkansas.
