Home Run Race Breaks Record for Corporate and Community Support
By Marilyn Feldman
October 16, 2005
Rockville, MD
For the Washington Running Report

The week of rain came to a halt in time for the start of the 2005 Home Run on Sunday, October 16, and runners at the 10K, 5K, and one mile fun run enjoyed a bright crisp morning - a perfect day for a run through the rolling hills of Rockville.

Corporate sponsorships raised a record $85,000 for this year's race, which benefited the residents of the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington and Jewish Foundation for Group Homes. Hall of Fame sponsors included: Goodman-Gable-Gould Adjusters International, The Tower Companies, Cherner Collision Center, Transwestern Commercial Services, KCE Structural Engineers and Sodexho Senior Services.

The top three male and female 10K winners received cash prizes. In the 10K race, Michael Wardian took first place with a time of 32:23. In the women's competition, Alisa Harvey took first place in a time of 37:52.

The 5K men's winner Sentayehu Mamo finished in a time of 18:22. In the 5K women's race, Beth Santilli finished with a time of 19:16.

This year was the first time these two organizations teamed up for the race. In addition to the runners, participants included more than 80 volunteers manning the course, many walkers and families enjoying a 1-mile fun run/walk, moon bounce and deejay. Chair of the 2005 event was Harvey Goodman, President of Goodman-Gable-Gould Adjusters International.
