New Partnership with UPS Brings Increased Level of Service to Race Day Baggage Check
By Beth Cline October 9, 2005 Quantico, VA For the Washington Running Report
Marine Corps Marathon and the United Parcel Service (UPS)
announced today the global shipping company will be a sponsor of
the 30th
anniversary MCM to be held Sunday, October 30, 2005, in
Washington, D.C. managing the entire runner baggage check
system.
"UPS is very excited to partner with the Marine Corps Marathon
to provide logistical help transporting the runners' bags on
race day," said UPS coordinator Chad Baker. "This race is known
as The People's Marathon and UPS is proud to serve the people on
race day, as we do everyday in our communities across the
globe."
UPS will make storing race day necessities easier by sponsoring
baggage
drop-off and retrieval on Marathon day. Runners will drop off
their
pre-packed, clear plastic goodie bag in the pre-race hours
either at the UPS Baggage Drop off in Runners' Village or at the
Baggage Tent adjacent to the Iwo Jima Monument. At the finish
line, runners may retrieve their belongings at the relocated UPS
trucks on Meade Street. UPS will be providing 30 trucks and
plenty of support volunteers for the UPS baggage system.
"I am pleased to welcome UPS as a partner for the Marine Corps
Marathon," said Rick Nealis, MCM Race Director. "Their support
will bring a new level of service to race day baggage operations
for all MCM runners."
All runners will receive a UPS baggage sticker at Packet Pick-up
during the Runners' Expo on October 28-29. The sticker should
be placed on a runner's bag prior to checking it at the UPS
Baggage Drop off. About the MCM
