Annandale's Margie Shapiro, co-owner of the Potomac River
Running Stores in Ashburn and Burke, convincingly won the
International Triathlon Union (ITU) JAL Honolulu World
Championships last weekend. Margie finished in 2:07.10 for this
Olympic Distance Triathlon (1500 meter swim, 40K bike, 10K run) -
- the 2005 Amateur World Championships. She was over 3 minutes
ahead of second place overall, Justine Whipple of Annapolis.
A mother of two, triathlon and running coach, and owner of the
PRR stores, Margie does most of her training before 7:00 a.m.,
and looks to add to that training volume as she moves into the
pro triathlete ranks in 2006, with an eye toward the 2008
Olympic Trials. Her win at Worlds follows a successful season
at more regional races including recent wins at Philadelphia,
Reston, and "Best of the U.S." triathlons.
Potomac River Running Stores will hold a Celebration
Promotion in honor of Margie's victory from Saturday, October
15 - Tuesday, October 18. Both stores will be giving away
Brooks Podium Long Sleeve Technical Shirts with a purchase of
$100 or more.
Potomac River Running has two stores.
