By Beth Cline Johnson October 30, 2007 Quantico, VA For the Washington Running Report
Runners can be a part of history on November 1, 2007 when the
Marine Corps Marathon opens registration for the inaugural
Marine Corps Historic Half. Beginning at noon eastern time on
the MCM
Web
site, would-be participants can register for the May 18,
2008 event. The race field is limited to 5,000 registrants and
is expected to fill quickly. "This is the event runners have been asking the Marine Corps
Marathon to organize for many years," said Rick Nealis,
Director. "We've found a perfect location, picked a great time
of year and designed a fun course." Runners from across the country and around the world can
register on a first come, first served basis by clicking the
link to registration on the MCM Web site. The process includes
accepting a waiver, completing the registration form, clicking
through a payment and receiving a confirmation e-mail. The 13.1 mile course will be held entirely within
Fredericksburg city limits, beginning and ending at the
Fredericksburg Convention Center. In conjunction with the half
marathon, the MCM will present a two-day Healthy Lifestyle Expo
featuring health, fitness, diet and wellness exhibitors, and
vendors.
Founded in 1976, Marine Corps Marathon is currently the 4th
largest marathon in the US and the 7th largest marathon in the
world. Known for a commitment to excellence and impeccable
organization, the Marine Corps Marathon brings 32 years of
planning experience to the creation of a new running event.
The Inaugural Marine Corps Historic Half will be held on May
18, 2008 in Fredericksburg, VA and is the first time in MCM
history that the organization will hold a running event outside
of traditional race weekend. No federal or Marine Corps
endorsement implied.
