Wirefly National Marathon Unveils 2008 Course
Half Marathon to Experience New Sections of the City
By Kate Michael October 11, 2007 Washington, DC For the Washington Running Report
The newly revised course for the 2008 Wirefly Marathon and Half
Marathon was unveiled last weekend at the Army 10 Miler Expo in
Crystal City, VA.
The route, a reversal of that in 2007, maintains its start and
finish at RFK Stadium, as in previous years, and provides
runners and spectators with views of more than monuments and
the National Mall. It highlights the best of the District's
neighborhoods, featuring six of the city's eight wards,
including portions run through the heart of Adams Morgan,
dynamic Kalorama, and beautiful Poplar Point.
"Just as last year, the course represents both DC's historic
past and its promising future," says Greater Washington Sports
Alliance President Robert Sweeney. "We are proud of the strong
sense of community this race develops in the region, and which
this course enforces."
Race Director and former elite marathoner, Keith Dowling,
maintains that the course has improved each year. "Runners in
the half marathon will experience a whole new section of the
city than in years past. For marathoners, this course retains
the aesthetic value of the last few years, but is functionally
better." A map of the course is available on the Wirefly
National Marathon web site.
Registration continues for the 3 rd annual Wirefly National
Marathon, which will be held Saturday, March 29th. For
