Desiree Ficker to Wear My Athlete GPS Tracking Device in Hawaii
By Eric Hodska October 1, 2008 Kailua-Kona, HI For the Washington Running Report
American triathlete Desiree Ficker is partnering with My
Athlete, a GPS tracking device company, for The Hawaii Ironman
world championship on October 11th. The My Athlete device, using the GTX Corp gpVector, will
provide live tracking on race day, allowing friends, family and
fans to follow Desiree's race day progress. "The goal behind My
Athlete is to allow an athletes support crew to be more
involved in "their" athletes races and training" said John
Brennan, CEO of My Athlete. "This device is more for the
athletes support crew than it is for the athlete. It's for
involving the athletes family and friends in on his or hers
journey." Desiree finished 2nd place in the 2006 Hawaii Ironman and has
won many 70.3 races. [Editor's note: 70.3 represents the
distance traveled in a Half Ironman (1.2M swim, 56 mile Bike,
13.1 run). The full Iron Man is (2.4M swim, 112 bike, 26.2 run)]
"Desiree represents the best aspects of the sport of
triathlon" said Eric Hodska of My Athlete. "She is not only
highly competitive, but is very personable and outgoing and has
quite a following that I'm sure would love to track her race
day progress. She'll be the first professional triathlete to
ever race with a GPS tracking device."
