Autumn Trek 5K & 1 Mile Walk in Watkins Park

Runners are needed for the 2nd Annual Crime Victims' Fund Run/Walk, a charity event to raise money to assist victims of violence in Prince George's County.

Note: This race has been postponed until October tentatively. This 5K Run or 1 mile walk will be held Saturday, September 18, 2004 at 8:30am at Watkins Park in Upper Marlboro, MD. Check-in time: 7:30am. Warm-up: 8:00am. Start: 8:30 am.

Proceeds from the Run/Walk will be used to maintain an emergency funding source for crime victims. The event is sponsored by Reaching Objectives through Joint Actions, Inc. and the Prince George's County State's Attorneys' Office.

Cash prizes to the first 3 finishers, men and women: $100 for first place, $75 for second and $50 for third overall. There are also awards for age groups and teams. Entry fee: $15.00 in advance. $20.00 on race day and includes a T-shirt for the 1st 300 entrants. Each entrant is eligible for dozens of fantastic random prizes. Timer provided by Annapolis Striders.

The course with mile markers is flat and scenic in one of Prince George County's most beautiful parks.

Directions: From the Capital Beltway (I-95), take exit 15 east onto Central Avenue (Route 214). Continue for approximately 3 miles and turn right at Watkins Park Dr (Route 193). Follow for about 3/4 mile to park entrance on right.
From Annapolis, take Route 50 west to 301 south to Central Avenue. Go 5 miles and turn left at light (Watkins Park Drive).

The cause: To maintain an emergency funding source for qualified crime victimes who have no other means to recover costs. The race is sponsored by Reaching Objectives through Joint Actions (ROJA), Inc. and the State's Attorney's Office; this non-profit fundraising event maintains an emergency crime victims fund in Prince George's County.
