
Old Town Alexandria to Host Gulf Coast Relief 5K Run and Walk
Charity Race for Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund on Saturday, September 17 Native Louisianan James Carville Urges Community Participation

The Gulf Coast Relief 5K Run will be held September 17 in Old
Town
Alexandria. All proceeds from the race will go toward the
American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund for victims of
Hurricane Katrina. Distinguished participants include
political strategists James Carville and Mary Matalin and other
guests.
Mizuno USA and Great Harvest Bread Company will serve as
corporate sponsors for the event.
"Everyday brings countless more tragic and heartbreaking
stories out of the ravaged Gulf Coast," Carville said. "The
outpouring of local concern and offers to help the victims of
Katrina has been overwhelming. The Gulf Coast Relief Run will
provide an opportunity for area friends and neighbors to come
together to support their fellow Americans suffering across the
Gulf Coast."
5K Run/Walk Details
The Gulf Coast Relief 5K run (3.1 miles) will begin at Oronoco Park at 9:00 am.
The park is located just east of the intersection of Pendleton
and Union Streets near the waterfront. Individuals can register online at www.gulfcoastreliefrun.com
or in person at Pacers Running Stores, located at 1301 King St.
in Old Town and 3100 Clarendon Blvd in Arlington. Store hours are Monday-Friday 10:00 am - 8:00 pm; Saturday 10:00 am - 6:00 pm; and Sunday 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Registration
is $25 in person ($28 online) and includes a race T-shirt.
Walkers and strollers are welcome. Packet pick up will be at Pacers of Old Town on Thursday and Friday, September 15 & 16. Race day packet pick up and registration will be at Oronoco Bay Park, 701 North Lee Street, Alexandria, VA. Please arrive early. There will be water stops, post-race food and prizes.
