The Virginia Run Turkey Trot committee has announced the winner of its logo contest for 2005. Christina Kim's design, above, has been chosen for this year's race. Christina lives in Herndon, VA and is a senior at Westfield's High School.

"I was not really sure what the Turkey Trot was until my Computer Graphics teacher explained it to us. I'm glad that the money goes to helping people and that my design was picked. There were a lot of great ones from other kids in my class," commented Christina.

The contest is promoted by Westfield's Art Department and offers a $100 reward for the winner. However, the ultimate reward is seeing hundreds and hundreds of neighbors sporting shirts with your design.

Now in its 17th year, the Virginia Run Turkey Trot 5K & 2 Mile Walk will take place on Thanksgiving morning at 8:00 am in Centreville, VA with assistance from community volunteers. The 5K race is ChampionChip timed; the cost of the rental chip is included in the entry fee and chips must be returned at the end of the race. The top overall and Virginia Run resident finishers will receive awards and age group awards will be mailed to top finishers in the following age groups: 10 & younger, 11-14, 15-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 & up.

Registration is available online through Active.com

Participants may also mail or fax an Entry Form

On-site registration and packet pickup is available in Centreville the week of the race; see the event Web site for details.

The Trot includes a USATF-certified 5K running course and a 2 mile walking course that start and finish on Pleasant Valley Road. Each travels through the Virginia Run community at Route 29 and Pleasant Valley Road in Centreville.

All proceeds from the Turkey Trot benefit Life with Cancer, Inova Health System's non-profit program for cancer patients and their families. To sponsor the race via cash or raffle items, contact Bob Donnelley at 703-830-1179.

Eric Post, age 25 of Centreville, VA, finished first in 2004 with a time of 15:58. Read about the 2004 Turkey Trot 5K.
