For the Washington Running Report

The Central Pennsylvania/Delaware Valley Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) hosted its Guts & Glory 5K Run/Walk September 9, 2006 in Harrisburg, PA. With more than 300 participants, this year's race raised approximately $50,000, resulting in the highest number of participants and the largest amount of money raised in the event's five-year history.

Proceeds from the race benefit research, education, and support programs for people coping with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, which are chronic digestive disorders of the small and large intestines collectively known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It is estimated that IBD affects approximately 1.4 million Americans.

The chairperson for this year's event was Dan Clawser of Lititz, PA. Larry Levy of Reading, PA (photo left) won the race with a time of 17:03 and Mari Cunningham of Lancaster, PA (photo below) was the first place woman with a time of 22:42. Danny Berger and his family, also of Lititz, raised the most funds at almost $2,500.

CCFA, a voluntary, non-profit national organization, seeks to cure and prevent Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis through research, and to improve the quality of life for children and adults affected by these digestive diseases through education and support.
