For the Washington Running Report

Runners are invited to kick off the holiday season with the Turkey Trot 10K to be held on November 15, 2008 aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico. Open to the general public, this traditional 10K run includes a turkey for all winners! Registration begins at noon eastern on September 24 online at www.marinecorpshistorichalf.com.

"During a time of year when many of us are doing a little more eating and a little less exercising, the Turkey Trot 10K is a fun way to keep the whole family active!" said Rick Nealis, Race Director.

The 6.2 mile course begins and ends at Butler Stadium. Runners will enjoy a moderately flat course, which loops from Butler Stadium, down Russell Road, and turns around in the Marine Federal Credit Union parking lot.

Registration is open to runners ages 6 and older. The $30 registration fee includes all race materials including the official event shirt, finisher coin courtesy of Marine Federal Credit Union, bib, hospitality and more. Younger runners (ages 6-9) can register for just $5 as a noncompetitive runner and receive the same great services, including an event shirt, but will not be chip timed.

Runners must pick up their bib and other race materials prior to the event. Packet Pick-up will be held on November 14 at the Marine Corps Marathon Building, located at 3399 Russell Road in Quantico, VA. For more on this, and additional details regarding RunStock and the MCM Event Series, visit www.marinecorpshistorichalf.com and click on Event Series.

Runners who participate in any race in the 2008 MCM Event Series are eligible for Event Series awards. Runners will receive points for their placement within the open male and female categories and within the master's male and female categories. Age group awards will be presented for each event and will fall into the following increments: ages 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and older.

The new MCM Event Series invites runners and fitness enthusiasts to participate in a range of race experiences. The Event Series is sponsored by GEICO, Marine Federal Credit Union, MetroSports DC, and Brooks.
