By Amy Lyons, Assistant Race Coordinator September 13, 2002 Arlington, VA Washington Running Report
The U.S. Army Military District of Washington will welcome more
than 18,000 runners from around the world Sunday, October 20 at
8:00 am at the Pentagon to participate in the 18th running of
the Army Ten-Miler. This premier sporting event is continually
recognized for its esprit de corps, organizational excellence,
and festive atmosphere.Jim Vandak, the Race Director, stated, "We were pleased to see
that runners enthusiastically registered for this year's race in
record time, despite last year's race cancellation. I believe
this is due in part to our willingness to quickly communicate
with our runners about the cancellation and to refund race fees." Activities abound over the race weekend. The Army Ten-Miler
Packet Pick-Up and Race Expo, featuring a variety of vendors,
will run October 18 and 19 at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in
Arlington, VA. Sgt. Maj. of the Army Jack L. Tilley will join
more than 500 military runners at the traditional GEICO Pasta
Dinner at the Crystal Gateway Marriott on Saturday night. On race day, children can enjoy the fun festivities of FM 94.7
The Arrow, Washington's Classic Rock, Kid's Zone, and the Junior
Ten-Miler kid's run. And, the weekend comes to a close with the
94.7 The Arrow Washington's Classic Rock Post-Race Party where
runners can celebrate their accomplishments with live music by
Automatic.
