The Down Under Returns to Hyattsville

All runners and walkers are invited to participate in the 10th Outback Steakhouse Corridor Classic 8K and 2 Mile Fun Walk, Sunday, November 24, 2002 at 9:00 A.M. The start and finish will be at Prince George's Plaza, 3500 East-West Highway, Hyattsville, Md. The Plaza is located off the Green Line of the Metro Transit System.

Returning for a second year, the Official Hospitality provider will be the Outback Steakhouse. The post-race food is not to be missed!

The race benefits Special Olympics Maryland, Prince George's County. The funds raised will help athletes during training and competition. Area restaurants and retailers will supply numerous random prizes for after the race. The Prince George's Plaza has been in the community since March 12, 1959. The Awards Categories: Cash awards (male/female): Open - Top 5 - $500-$350-$200-$100-$75 Masters - Top 4 - $300-$250-$150-$75 $50 will be awarded the first place finishers in the 50-59, 60- 69, 70-79, and 80+ age groups.

Event Bonus: $100 for new event records for Male and Female Open and Masters). The current records are: Open Male, 23:34; Female 27:20; Masters Male, 25:11; Masters Female, 29:45.

The top three males and females in the following age groups will receive adidas Stripe 3 (College Park) merchandise awards: 19 & Under, 20-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75 & Over.

No duplication of awards. Prize money winners are removed from age group awards. Checks to be mailed within two weeks.

The 2001 winners were Sammy Ng'eno, 23:34; Heather Hanscom, 28:03; masters division men, John Tuttle, 25:12; and masters division women, Lee DiPietro, 29:45.

Advance registration is $20 if postmarked by November 15, 2002. The fee will increase on November 16. You may register in person at the Hyattsville Municipal Building, Recreation Department, 4310 Gallatin Street, 3rd Floor, Hyattsville, Md., Monday - Friday, 9:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.
