Washington, D.C. -- The Four Seasons Hotel again hosts the
Terry Fox
Run -- a four-mile fun-run to raise money for cancer research at
Washington
Cancer Institute. This year's run will be held Sunday, October
21 at
8:00am at the Four Seasons Hotel.
Terry Fox was 18 years old when he lost his leg to
cancer. Moved
by the suffering of other cancer patients, he set out to run
across Canada
with hopes of raising money and awareness for cancer research.
During
this
"Marathon of Hope," Terry ran 3,339 miles in 143 days until he
was
forced to stop running by a return of the cancer. He died one
month short of
his 23rd birthday.
Participants around the world keep Terry's dream of curing cancer
alive with the Terry Fox Run held yearly in 52 countries. To
date, over $350 million has been raised and devoted exclusively
to cancer research around the world. In Washington, all
proceeds will go the Washington Cancer Institute, which is part
of the Washington Hospital Center.
The Washington Terry Fox event is a four-mile fun-run;
runners, walkers, bikers and wheelers of all ages are welcome.
Prizes and refreshments will be available at a post-event
reception along the banks of the C&O Canal.
