Runner Responsibilities

Please do not pick up a Chip if you will not be participating in the event.

  1. When you pick up your Chip the envelope will have a label showing your bib number and Chip number. First be sure to determine that you have been given the correct envelope. The bib number on the envelope should match your bib number. Look at the Chip to verify that the code on the Chip is the same as on the label. The Chip in the envelope has been correlated with your information that relates to your bib number. Contact the race organizers if you have a discrepancy.

  2. If you register at late registration or on race day, be sure to tell the cashier that you are a ChampionChip owner. That way you will be assigned the proper bib number. Generally, at Capital Running Company events low bib numbers are reserved for Chip owners.

  3. If you are a Chip owner, there will not be a rental Chip for you. Do not take a Chip if a volunteer offers you one. Never run with two Chips. Your personal Chip number should be printed on your bib label. Please remember to bring your Chip on race day! We offer the discount if you bring your own Chip to the race.

  4. Be certain that you are wearing the Chip assigned to you and that you did not accidentally switch it with a friend or team mate.

  5. Do not leave the rental Chip in your car or at home if you picked up the Chip before race day.

  6. You must wear your Chip laced into your laces or secure it with a variety of Velcro or neoprene straps. In order to score you most effectively, wear the Chip with the long tube pointing towards your toes. If you don't wear your Chip or put it in your pocket, you will not be timed and scored.

  7. You must cross the mats at both the starting and finish lines and any other mats on the course used for splits or verification.

  8. You must return your rental Chip soon after crossing the finish line.

  9. If you do not finish the race, you must mail the Chip to the timing company. Wrap the Chip in tissue or bubble wrap to ensure the Chip survives the mailing experience. Include extra postage (currently $1.13) if you return the Chip in the envelope initially provided or an over sized envelope.
