Capitol Hill Classic 10K, 3K & Kids Fun Runs

General Information

Twenty-seven years and more than 30,000 runners later, this 10K is the classic Washington, DC race. Run through the corridors of power on historic Capitol Hill with senators, school kids, and seasoned racers -- this is where people come to see and be seen. As an added bonus, 100% of your race fees support the Capitol Hill Cluster School, an incredible public school in the heart of our nation's capital!

Location & Time: All races start and finish at the Peabody School, the early childhood campus of the Capitol Hill Cluster School, located right on Stanton Park at the corner of 5th & C Streets, NE, Washington, D.C., three blocks from Union Station.

The 10K will start at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 3K at approximately 9:45 a.m. The Kids Fun Runs begin at 10:30 a.m. Bag check and food will be available.

Parking and Metro: Off-street parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking information will be available at the Friday and Saturday packet pick-up only, so come early! Limited on-street parking is also available near the start. Runners may also take the Red Line Metro to Union Station or the Orange/Blue Line to Eastern Market. Metro opens at 7:00 a.m. on Sundays. The 10K race will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m.

ChampionChip: The ChampionChip timing system will be used to score the race. All 10K and 3K runners are required to rent or purchase a ChampionChip for the race. The system uses a computer chip, which must be tied to runners' shoelaces, and records the exact time a runner crosses the start and finish line. This results in a net, or "Chip" time for each runner. Overall awards will be based on the "clock time," and age group awards will be based on "Chip time." The race entry fee includes ChampionChip rental. Collection boxes for rental chips will be provided in the finish area immediately following the race. Rented chips must be returned.

You can purchase your own personal ChampionChip for $35. Chip owners are assigned a unique number and the chip can be used again and again at any ChampionChip race. Chip owners may also deduct $2 from the entry fee for this race and other Capital Running Company ChampionChip races.

Team Entries: Teams are composed of a minimum of five people, must be co-ed, with the first three runners counting for scoring, one of which must be of the opposite gender. There will be prizes for the fastest team, the largest team, and the craziest-costumed team. Please register all team entries together. Be sure to enter the name of your team captain as well as the team name exactly the same on each entry form. The team captain is responsible for packet pick-up for all team members.

Fun Runs for Children! There are three popular fun runs for children under 10: heats of 1 mile, 1/3 mile, and a 50-yard dash. Every runner is a winner and receives a ribbon as well as their T-shirt.

Please note: Strollers, baby-joggers, skates, pets, and headphones are prohibited on the 10K course. No refunds. Please pick up your t-shirt on race day, as we cannot mail it to you.

Volunteers: Not running this year but still want to be a part of the fun? Accompanying a spouse, friend, or office mate? Help make the Capitol Hill Classic a great success by volunteering your services! Please contact Don Montuori.
