Photo above: Runners begin the 17th Annual Somerset Elementary Back-to-School Classic 8K.

First photo below: Nathaniel McVey-Finney, age 35 of Silver Spring, MD, placed sixth with a time of 29:04.

Second photo: Bethesda resident Peter Bandettini, age 38, ran strong to the finish line for 12th place in 31:25.

Third photo: The Somerset 8K has a tradition of attracting neighbors to tackle the challenge of running hard for more than thirty minutes. 26-year-old Andy Blake-Haskins ran 8:20/mile pace to break 42 minutes.

Top photo: 123 women finished the 8K run this year and 16 ran sub-8:00/mile pace.

Second photo: Robert Graves, age 53, was followed by an incredibly young-looking 70-year-old Robert Smith of Comus, MD. Graves finished with a time of 42:06 in the middle of the pack.

Third photo: Tenth place finisher Mark Hand, age 37, ran across the finish line in 30:12. The 2K and fun runners watched those ambitious enough to run the longer event.

Second photo: Andrew Morgan, age 15 and age group winner, poured it on and finished 13th with a time of 31:34.

Third photo: Brian Tullis, age 31 of Silver Spring, MD and Ted Poulos, age 42 of McLean, VA head home as the fourth and fifth finishers in 28:51.

Bottom photo: Joshua Seidman, age 35, also ran well to place 11th with a time of 30:23.
