The lion on the long run: what trails are clear as we roll into March

(I completely had the wrong month in mind in the original title)

With Spring marathons approaching fast and people needing their last long run for the Rock ‘n’ Roll and Shamrock marathons, trails that aren’t in direct sunlight probably aren’t going to improve much before tomorrow or Sunday morning.

Here’s a collection of paved trails or roads and an idea, largely crowd sourced via RunWashington social media, of what kind of condition you’ll find them in Saturday morning:

  • Green means clear and closed to traffic.
  • Yellow means the road is clear but not closed to traffic.
  • Orange means conditions vary.
  • Red means we’ve heard bad things and it’s probably not worth it to try.

The old standbys, Beach Drive and the Capital Crescent Trail, are good to go, as is Hains Point, and the Custis Trail, which Arlington County started plowing this winter.

Send any tips to [email protected] or comment below and I will incorporate your input.
