Together The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s Patuxent River Park and The Maryland Department of Natural Resources’ Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary comprise over 3,500 acres along the banks of the Patuxent River. The river and its shores are home to an incredible variety of wildlife. Proceeds from the run and walk directly support projects, research, conservation, and education in the Patuxent River watershed.
The race course takes participants along the banks of the Patuxent River, and across a 1,000-foot bridge through a wetland area. Since 1996, the race has been held at this natural area gem. Hundreds of nature enthusiasts and runners from Prince George’s County and all around the DC metropolitan area participate annually
