Located just south of the Capital Beltway in Lorton, this beautiful race course includes a mixture of forested and open meadow singletrack meandering through 1600 acres of the former prison grounds. The race starts and ends under the old guard towers at the Workhouse Arts Center, which is the site of the former Lorton Reformatory. The course is one of our least technical and most of it is on singletrack that is a mix of dirt and crushed stone. The only short pavement sections are at the beginning and end of the race.

Situated on Gunston Cove and adjacent to Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge and Gunston Hall, home of Founding Father George Mason, Pohick Bay is steeped in beauty and history. The trails are excellent, the water views are amazing, and bald eagle sightings are common. The moderately technical course includes tight single-track, wide open double-track, challenging climbs, and flowy descents. Don’t miss this awesome Backyard Burn course!

The shutdown shut us down on Oct 5, but we’re back with a modified race distance and new course. Our 20 Miler will now be a 10 Miler. The Janet Braunstein 5 Miler will remain a 5 Miler. This course is USTAF certified.

All finishers will receive our 2025 commemorative hoodie.

Work off those extra holiday calories at one of our most popular club races, the Turkey Burnoff 5 and 10 Mile race at Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg. The course is scenic (double loop for 10 miles) and you’ll burn off that third helping of pumpkin pie on the gently rolling hills. The park deer occasionally make a cameo appearance and they don’t brake for runners! All runners need to be in the park by 7:50 AM.

The course has rolling hills while running across a dam and through the woods on paved roads. In addition to the 5- and 10-mile races, there is a free kids’ race.
