Conveniently located right off the Capital Beltway, Rosaryville State Park in Upper Marlboro, MD offers fun and challenging terrain, that is also beginner friendly. Not overly technical in nature, this race course is perfect for an early season trail running race.

The race course at Rosaryville is beautiful and fun and winds through mixed hardwood forests and fields. The trails are twisty, relatively smooth, relatively flat and fast. The half marathon course includes the 9 mile perimeter trail, the 2 mile interior trail, and wide open horse trails. The 10K+ course includes 5 miles of the perimeter trail and just over one mile of wide open horse trails. The 5K course consists of part of the perimeter trail and some equestrian trails.

The Fountainhead Half Marathon+ and 10K++ (actually 11ish K) courses are absolutely tough and they are absolutely beautiful. Fountainhead Regional Park, in Fairfax County, VA, is only 30 minutes outside of Washington D.C. and has an extremely remote feel for being so close to a major metropolitan area. The half marathon(+) course includes a 6-mile long stretch of the Bull-Run Occoquan Trail (BROT) from Fountainhead to Bull Run Marina as well as three seldom used side trails along the BROT. The 10K(++) course uses a shorter section of the BROT and one of the side trails…yes…it’s the one with the really epic climb!

There are 4 aid stations on the 10K++ course and 7 aid stations on the half marathon course. All aid stations have water and Gatorade. The aid station at about mile 7 on the half marathon course has snacks and and a portajohn.
