  • The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the reported assault of a female runner in the Lansdowne area early Sept. 24.The victim was running in the area of Riverside Parkway and Kipheart Drive at around 5:45 a.m. she was assaulted by an unknown male. The suspect tackled the woman to the ground. She was able to fight off the male and run to a passerby who drove her home. She then reported the incident to authorities.The suspect is described as a black male, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, possibly grey, with the hood up. He was also wearing possible khaki pants. He fled the area on foot towards the Lansdowne Town Center.Anyone with any information regarding this case is asked to call the Detective C. Cunningham of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 703-777-0475.
  • The Washington Post published a story about the community of Ethiopian runners who have settled around the D.C. area to escape political persecution at home.
  • Two local ultramarathoners, Michael Wardian and Bobby Gill, are among six male finalists in the Runner’s World cover contest from among 1,600 entrants. The winner, announced Oct. 29, will be featured on the December 2015 issue cover with the winning woman. Read about the finalists here.

Race pacing for fun and fitness

A break from racing one of my favorite events gave me a chance to help other runners reach their time goals.

Eight local runners will compete in the Olympic Marathon Trials Saturday morning in Orlando.

Blackwater Canyon Half Marathon

A point to point race on pavement, dirt, and gravel. Course descends 1400 ft. Entry will close at 200 runners. $60 before August 13; $75 after August 13. Start at 9 am in Thomas; Finish at Mill Race Park, Parsons.

Blue Ridge Marathon

10K, Team Relay, Half Marathon, Full Marathon, Double Marathon in Roanoke, Virginia.
