  • The Arlington Memorial Bridge has reopened after more than two years of rehabilitation that limited sidewalk access and prevented the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile, Army Ten-Miler and the Rock ‘n’ Roll D.C. races from using the bridge for their courses.
  • Montgomery County Parks will not close Little Falls Parkway to traffic on weekends during the winter months, owing to the labor involved in setting up four roadblocks. Feedback can be sent to [email protected] or 301-495-2595.
  • The DCSAA is delaying the start of sports, with indoor track now scheduled to start practices Feb. 1 and cross country scheduled to begin March 8.
  • Jazmine Fray who runs for the District Track Club, was a guest on the Keeping Pace podcast.
  • The District Track Club recently redesigned its website, which includes a merchandise sale through Dec. 20 to help fund the middle distance team and free educational materials for runners.
  • Georgetown alumna Rachel Schneider ran 31:09.79 for 10k at the Sound Running Track Meet to meet the Olympic standard of 31:25.
  • Heritage alumna Weini Kelati, the defending NCAA cross country and 5k champion, left the University of New Mexico early to run professionally for Under Armour’s Dark Sky Distance team.
  • Georgetown alumnus and former coach Chris Miltenberg was a guest on the Morning Shakeout podcast.

  • Former Georgetown runner Hugh Joseph Short, who set a world record in the 660-yard dash and was on a world -record-setting mile relay team (3:17.2) before leaving to serve in World War II, died Nov. 4 at age 98.
  • Construction on the Arlington Memorial Bridge will limit access to the south sidewalk (with detours posted) and the Mount Vernon Trail will be closed under the bridge from 9 p.m.- 5 a.m. until early 2021.
  • Loudoun Valley’s girls, running as The Jungle, finished fourth in what is essentially the national high school club cross country championships Nov. 15 in Terre Haute, Ind. Ava Gordon finished seventh overall on a scoring team that included Ally Talley and Ricky, Scarlet and Cecelia Fetterolf, along with Maddie Smith and Katherine Slovak.
  • Springfield ultrarunner Megan Alvardo, who ran on the U.S. 24-hour team last year, will be the guest on this week’s Potomac River Running Instagram Live, Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 8 p.m.
  • The Potomac Heritage Trail is currently closed south of the Arlington County parking lot at the intersection of Glebe Road and Chain Bridge Road. The NPS is working with Arlington County and the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club to identify a temporary deour and a plan to reopen.
  • Arlington County is accepting comments through Friday Nov. 20 on a project to improve three trail intersections on the Bluemont Junction Trail.
  • Oakton and American alumna Keira D’Amato was a guest on the Ali on the Run podcast.
  • D’Amato, Reston’s Susanna Sullivan, former Fairfax resident Bethany Sachtleben, Molly Seidel and Emily Durgin will take a shot at the American 10-mile record (52:12) at 8 a.m. Monday Nov. 23  at the Up Dawg Ten Miler, which will be livestreamed on the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Facebook page.
  • The Cherry Blossom organizing committee will announce a decision on holding the 2021 race by Dec. 31 before opening registration.
  • The District Track Club’s coach Tom Brumlik and athlete Jacob Dumford, both of Arlington, were guests on the Run Your Mouth podcast, along with teammate Willy Fink of Blacksburg.

  • Richard Montgomery alumnus Rohann Asfaw is once again the USATFCCCA Division I National Athlete of the Week, following his win at the Wolfpack Invitational, where he led the University of Virginia to victory.
  • Annie Lutz, =PR=’s footwear buyer, and Joe Rolen, a show collector, will be the guests on this week’s Potomac River Running Instagram Live, Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 8-9 p.m.
  • Volunteers with the Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail scrubbed the mold and mildew off of the Trollheim Bridge (south of Roosevelt Island), making it less slippery when wet.

  • Chantilly alumnus Sean McGorty will be the guest on this week’s Potomac River Running Instagram Live, Wednesday, Oct. 7 from 8 p.m. – 9 p.m.
  • Georgetown alunmna Emily Infeld was a guest on The Hurdle.
  • The Dojo of Pain is holding a limited capacity marathon in East Potomac Park Dec. 5 at 6:30 a.m. Due to permit resrictions, the field is limited to 100 runners, who must finish within three hours. Email [email protected] for more info, and please include a brief running bio.
  • Following a vote of no confidence by the faculty, Samantha Huge resigned as athletic director at the College of William and Mary. It remains to be seen what this will hold for the college’s plan to cut men’s track and field and reduce roster spots for men’s cross country.
