The Tekau’s Heart Memorial 5K Run/1 Mile Walk is held in memory of Tekau Rasayon, who passed away suddenly on March 28, 2012 from an anomalous coronary artery (ACA) while running on her high school track. She was 17 years old. The Tekau’s Heart Memorial 5K Run/1 Mile Walk is held to raise awareness about heart conditions that can occur in teens and young adults and in memory of Tekau Rasayon; who was an active senior at Surrattsville High School (SHS) in Prince George’s County, Maryland. She served as Vice President of her senior class and was a Cadet Colonel in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC). She was an avid leader and companion, who continuously gave back and acted as a role model exhibiting excellence, kindness, and diligence.

Proceeds from the Run will go towards funding a memorial scholarship in Tekau’s name for a high school senior going to college, heart health programs, and to raise heart health awareness.
